Although currently out-of-print Paul Galdone's What's in fox's sack? : An old English tale (Clarion Books, 1982) will make a good tale to compare and contrast with The Tale of Tricky Fox.
Check local libraries for a copy of Galdone's book. If Galdone's
version is available, compare and contrast the titles. Galdone's
version includes a bumblebee, a rooster, a pig, and finally a little
boy.
If Tricky Fox's brother did
lose the bet with Tricky Fox and have to eat his hat it would not be
very tasty. However, Jim Aylesworth has a much tastier solution for
those who lose bets and have to "eat their hats." The back of his book
includes a recipe for Tricky Fox's Eat-Your-Hat Cookies. It is
a recipe adapted from the author's great-grandmother's sugar cookie
recipe. Make the cookie dough and roll it out. Then cut various shapes
and use the shapes to create different kinds of hats or just cut out
hat-shaped cookies freehand. Bake them and eat them.
