Jim Aylesworth's Book of Bedtime Stories

by Jim Aylesworth
Illustrated by JoEllen McAllister-Stammen,
Walter Lyon Krudop, and Eileen Christelow
(Atheneum, 1998)

A collection of favorite tales: "Two Terrible Frights," "Teddy Bears Tears," "The Completed Hickory Dickory Dock," and "The Good Night Kiss." Aylesworth introduces each of the stories with a note about the story's theme and applications. "Two Terrible Frights" features a girl and a mouse who each get a bedtime snack and experience a similar scares. "Teddy Bear Tears" reverses the traditional scenario of a stuffed animal comforting a teary-eyed young child. In this tale a young boy comforts four of his teddy bears who have tears. "The Completed Hickory Dickory Dock"takes the traditional verse far beyond the original stanzas and into an energetic romp through the day. "The Good-Night Kiss" will lull the listening child to bed with the gentle sights and sounds of the world outside of the window. A great collection of bedtime tales.

"...an omnibus edition designed to help parents ease their children into sleep." -- Horn Book, 1999.
